Prevalence of depression symptoms among staff at the city institute for emergency medical services Belgrade

Introduction: According to the WHO, depression is a common mental disorder where workplace conditions play significant contributing factor. Objective: To examine prevalence of symptoms and relationship with sociodemographic characteristics in staff at Institute for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Belgrade, i.e., physicians, medical technicians, drivers administrative workers. Methodology: The research was conducted City EMS Belgrade period from December 1 6, 2007. questionnaire consisted questions about participants, self-assessment PHQ-9 question use antidepressants. data that collected statistically processed software package SPSS 20.0 Results: study included 118 58,47% were male average age 40,77 ± 8,86. result test showed 30% participants had subsyndromal depression, 11% mild depressive episode, most often female (p = 0,023) workers 0,003). Depressive present 16.95% respondents. Out 9 listed fatigue/extreme exhaustion commonly (47,46%) as well feelings emptiness hopelessness (43,22%). Only 11,86% used antidepressants there no difference relation observed parameters. Conclusion: Symptoms significantly among more those working administration.
